Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe Everton will qualify for Champions League

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe that Everton will qualify for the Champions League this season, despite the club’s recent win over Arsenal.

The Toffees walked away from the Emirates with three points for the first time since Arsenal moved to the stadium, courtesy of an own goal from goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

With clubs around Everton dropping points over the last few weeks, the Blues are now just five points behind fourth with a game in hand over everyone above them.

Despite Everton’s return to winning ways against the Gunners, Campbell believes that the club’s upcoming fixtures are too difficult for the Champions League to be considered realistic.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said: “It’s a possibility. It’s a long shot, but yes it is possible.

“I don’t think they’ll make it because I think they’ve just got a little bit too much to do, considering some of the games they’ve got left.

“Arsenal versus Everton should’ve been a better spectacle than it was but they [Everton] ended up winning because of a howler from the goalkeeper, and you expect more from both clubs in games like that.

“One thing they did do though, they defended well, so I’ve got to give them credit for that.”

In their final six games of the season, Everton are still set to face West Ham and Manchester City, as well as the unpredictable Aston Villa on two separate occasions.

Carlo Ancelotti has led his Everton side to a stable position in the Premier League this season, and whether they qualify for Europe or not the current campaign has undeniably seen the club continue to improve.

That said, qualifying for Europe would be a fine way to end the season following the hard work of everyone associated with the club.
