Ancelotti challenges Richarlison to do ‘much, much better’ next season

Carlo Ancelotti has challenged Everton forward Richarlison to do “much, much better” next season following a quiet campaign for the Brazilian.

Richarlison has only scored six times in the Premier League for the Blues this season, having scored 13 times in the league in both of his previous campaigns as an Everton player.

The 23-year old still has six games of the season remaining to add to his goal tally, however Ancelotti has now issued a challenge for him to improve.

The Italian coach made clear that he values the versatile forward highly, however he suggested that more was expected of the former Watford man.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti said: “I think he had problems at the beginning [of the season].

“He started well but was then suspended and travelled with the national team and then was out for another personal reason – from a physical viewpoint he was not always at the top, and this affected his technical performances.

“He had a good spell when Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] was out, and he scored goals and did well as a striker, but he can do much, much better next season for sure, and I hope he can do better at the end of this season as well.”

Everton

Has it in his locker

Richarlison certainly hasn’t been what he once was this season, but we think that partially comes down to the fact that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has stolen his spotlight somewhat.

The England international emerged as Everton’s primary goalscorer this season so Richarlison was also going to take a backseat.

That said, the Brazilian should still quite rightly have more expected of him, particularly when he hasn’t offset the lack of goals with more assists, having currently just three to his name in the Premier League.

Richarlison is comfortably one of the most promising players that Everton currently have in their squad, so it only seems right to demand more from him because we know he can do more.

Ancelotti recently called Richarlison a ‘top talent‘, and he’s absolutely correct, but at almost 24-years old he needs to begin showing that talent on a more regular basis.

Everton have European ambitions, and Richarlison wants to win silverware, so we need him to step his game up if we’re to see either of those aims come to fruition any time soon.
