Shearer told Premierleague.com, “He made several excellent saves. That performance bodes well for England this summer.”

Proving doubters wrong

Pickford is a player fans and pundits love to knock but the truth is that he is England’s best goalkeeper and one of the best in the Premier League.

We missed him dearly when he was sidelined with injury and he has reinforced his importance since his return.

He commanded the defence superbly and made key saves to keep a clean sheet in the excellent win at Arsenal, and was once again superb against Villa.

It is good to see him getting deserved recognition and hopefully his confidence builds ahead of the Euros.

Pickford’s upturn in form has come at a good time, too, as Everton are rumoured to be after a goalkeeper this summer – Manchester United’s Sergio Romero has been linked [Daily Mail].

Carlo Ancelotti should have confidence in Pickford, and the shot-stopper would look better with a dependable back four in front of him.

We were all over the place against Villa and it is difficult for a keeper to perform well in that environment, yet Pickford still showed his class.

Let’s hope he maintains his form.
