Everton trio wait for Toffees to make decision on respective futures
Everton trio Lewis Gibson, Nathangelo Markelo and Dennis Adeniran are all waiting on the club to make a decision on their respective futures according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Toffees have a number of important decisions to make this summer as they seek to bolster their senior options, with certain players needing to be sold to accommodate new signings.
Everton have been linked with the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Hee-chan Hwang and even Sergio Aguero in recent weeks, indicating that the club are prepared to invest considerably in the squad this summer.
However they’ll also be required to sort out the long-term futures of several of their young talents, with Gibson, Markelo and Adeniran on the immediate agenda.
Adeniran is currently on loan with Wycombe in the Championship where he has played 20 times in the league, and the Liverpool Echo report that he is waiting for Everton to make a decision with his contract set to expire in June.
Gibson, who was previously considered to be a talent on the cusp of breaking into the first-team group, has been with Reading this season and has little over 12 months remaining on his contract, with his future also currently up in the air.
FC Twente loanee Markelo is also entering the final 12 months of his contract, with Everton yet to come to a conclusion over what to do with him going forward.
Important call
Since Farhad Moshiri became Everton’s majority shareholder, the club have spent an awful lot of money on playing talent designed to improve the first-team squad.
Some of those players haven’t quite panned out, and some have been resounding successes, with the club’s financial freedom allowing them to operate much more comfortably in the market.
Where Everton have also shined and what they don’t receive as much credit for is just how well they’ve recruited for their Under-23s.
The Blues are blessed with a successful academy system that has churned out numerous first-team players over the years, but the club have also paid more attention to signing talented young players for their young teams.
Gibson, Markelo and Adeniran are all players who have arrived from rivals as Everton looked to bolster their youth ranks, and now they must make the right call on whether to let them go or whether to continue nurturing their careers.
Part of the process is deciding if players have what it takes to make the grade, and hopefully we’ll see the club come to the right conclusion when assessing the trio going forward.
