View: Three things we learned from Everton in win v West Ham

Everton claimed just their second win in their last eight Premier League games against West Ham on Sunday, winning 1-0 at the London Stadium.

The Toffees had been on a disappointing run in the Premier League and the high-flying Hammers posed a sizeable threat, however Everton emerged as victors from the cagey affair.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck the winning goal in the first-half, unleashed through the centre following a well-placed Ben Godfrey through-ball.

At Goodison News we have picked out three things we learned from the away victory.

He’s more than a target man

Though it could be argued that Lukasz Fabianski could have done better for Calvert-Lewin’s goal, the Everton forward did everything right to prove that he isn’t somehow who needs to rely too heavily on his aerial ability.

Demonstrated pace, power and finishing ability, Calvert-Lewin’s goal saw him display a side of his game that we rarely see, and that’s a side of his game that we should get to see more often.

Much better when he can play

On a number of occasions Allan has shown that he can be more effective when allowed to push forward, and with Tom Davies allowing him to do so against West Ham, his quality shone through.

Dangerous in possession and able to operate with physicality and tenacity, Allan is an important asset who benefits from being allowed to play in a more positive way.

Everton

Godfrey has it all

Undeniably Everton’s player of the season, Ben Godfrey has shown throughout the campaign that there is very little that he can’t do.

His through-ball for Calvert-Lewin’s goal was his most notable contribution in the game but his strength, pace and steel in defence make him the most well-rounded defender in Carlo Ancelotti’s arsenal.
