Joshua King aims VAR swipe after possible handball missed in Everton clash v West Ham

Joshua King has taken to Instagram to air his frustration at VAR over the failure to award Everton a penalty against West Ham on Sunday evening.

The Blues ran out 1-0 victors at the London Stadium but the February signing from Bournemouth is adamant that they should have had the chance to double their lead.

King was a late substitute for Richarlison and came mightily close to opening his Everton account with a header at the back post from a cross by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Norway international rose above Vladimir Coufal and aimed a header at goal with Lukasz Fabianski stranded.

His effort appeared to hit the post and bounce out to safety for the home side, but a video circulating online appears to show the ball striking the arm of Hammers defender Craig Dawson.

King reposted the video on his personal Instagram profile, captioning it “Cheers VAR” on his story, accompanied by a hand over the face emoji.

Not doing their job

What’s even the point of VAR anymore if it’s not going to be implemented properly?

Countless cameras and more pairs of eyes are supposed to aid the referee and spot what can’t be seen on the pitch.

They should be inspecting incidents thoroughly at Stockley Park, but it appears they made a blunder on Sunday.

We weren’t told that the incident was being checked, so whether it’s been missed or they just deemed it not to amount to an obvious error, we just don’t know yet.

Hopefully the Premier League or PGMOL will come out and add some clarity to the situation.

From the footage on the video reposted by King, it seems glaringly obvious that it hit Dawson’s arm and thus gave West Ham an advantage.

That could have given King the chance to score his first Everton goal from the spot, but instead his wait will carry on into his 12th game at least.
