Kevin Campbell believes Everton need to ask more of Richarlison

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Richarlison’s goalscoring form for Everton hasn’t been good enough this season.

Since signing from Watford in 2018, Richarlison had led the goalscoring charts for Everton in both of his seasons on Merseyside before the current campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has taken the main goalscoring duties from him, with the Brazilian having just six Premier League goals to his name.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell believes Calvert-Lewin needs more support, claiming Richarlison’s contributions haven’t been acceptable.

Campbell said: “Obviously it isn’t good enough, it’s just not good enough.

“The fact of the matter is that Dominic Calvert-Lewin started the season really well, and then when he went off the boil, Richarlison was picking up the slack.

“The problem is that when both of them went off the boil, you’ve then got no one else. It’s so difficult to win matches when you’re two main guys aren’t scoring. You look around the team, James Rodriguez pops up with one or two here or there, but there aren’t threats all over that pitch.

“Everybody else [except Calvert-Lewin] doesn’t score regularly enough, and it’s so hard but that’s the next level that Carlo Ancelotti I’m sure will be looking at, getting more goals into the team.”

Calvert-Lewin has missed just five Premier League games for the Blues this season, and in those five games Richarlison was only able to score once.

The England international has been forced to shoulder the goalscoring burden for the Toffees this season, whether he plays or not, and the club need other players to contribute more consistently.

Richarlison has work to do to continue improving, but Carlo Ancelotti should also consider exploring the transfer market for further recruits, assuming that Moise Kean isn’t set to become an option.

In other Everton news, Everton have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
