View: Everton points total shows clear progression under Ancelotti
Everton have undeniably improved since Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager following Marco Silva’s dismissal in December 2019.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin in particular has seen a dramatic improvement as far as his individual development is concerned, but on the whole the squad has shown signs of progress.
Currently ninth in the Premier League table with two games in hand on certain clubs, Everton’s league position doesn’t quite tell the full story.
As pointed out by an Everton-based stats account EFC Statto on Twitter, the Blues have accrued 55 points in the Premier League this season, which is a higher total than was managed in five of the previous six seasons.
Ronald Koeman’s Everton achieved a total of 61 points in the 2016/17 season, and with four games of the current campaign remaining Ancelotti still has time to top that total too.
Everton are not the only club to have suffered through several injury crises this season, however the issues that have plagued the squad has seen the club waste chanes and throw away opportunities.
However even with that taken into consideration, the fact remains that Ancelotti has achieved a higher points total that his predecessor, and he’s almost completely surpassed the accomplishments of Koeman too.
Everton always knew when they appointed Ancelotti that they were getting a bonafide managerial superstar. The Italian’s reputation in world football is rock solid and his impressive honours list proves him to be a highly decorated coach too.
However it was also expected that it would take time for the former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain boss to instigate real change on Merseyside, with a number of transfer windows needed for him to transform the squad that he inherited.
Despite that expectation however he has already made great progress, drawing on his previous footballing relationships and his tactical knowledge to begin the building process.
Whether Everton do top the points tally achieved by Koeman this season or not, Ancelotti has certainly begun to turn things around at Goodison Park, and failure to qualify for European football won’t change that.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are reportedly willing to shell out £21m for 24y/o defender open to Everton switch.
