Predicted Everton starting XI v Sheffield United
Following a disappointing draw against Aston Villa, Everton will be hopeful that they get back to winning ways when they face Sheffield United on Sunday.
Everton suffered a severe dent to their European hopes against the Villans on Thursday, following up a positive result against West Ham with one that just wasn’t enough.
Though Europe might now be out of reach for the Blues, they’ll still want to end the season on a high note, and win against the already relegated Blades would put them on their way.
At Goodison News, we have named our predicted Everton XI to take on Sheffield United this weekend…
Though the Toffees were underwhelming against Aston Villa, Jordan Pickford certainly did nothing wrong, racking up his third and the club’s fourth consecutive away clean sheet in the Premier League.
Admittedly he had very little to do at Villa Park, but he’ll find himself in the line-up against Sheffield United regardless.
Yerry Mina has been ruled out once more due to a recent injury so Carlo Ancelotti could well name the same backline against the Blades. Having shown a recent preference for three at the back, Ancelotti could pick Mason Holgate, Ben Godfrey and Michael Keane all to start, with Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne on either flank as wing-backs.
Allan has impressed for Everton over the past two weeks so he’s likely to continue in midfield, while Tom Davies could once again feel hard done by as Abdoulaye Doucoure is likely to remain in place.
Gylfi Sigurdsson has struggled to impress in recent weeks and with Ancelotti confirming the return to fitness of James Rodriguez, the Icelandic playmaker could make way for the Colombian.
James will likely start on the right for Everton, while Richarlison will occupy the left, leaving Dominic Calvert-Lewin unopposed as the Blues’ leading man up top.
Josh King was once again left on the bench against Aston Villa despite the fact that Everton needed a goal, and we can’t see any way that he’ll start a game now before the end of the season.
In the extremely slim chance that Everton are offered up one final opportunity to qualify for Europe, Ancelotti will want his players to treat United respectfully and get the job done. Whether it ends up being an important game or not however, he’ll want a win regardless.
