Kevin Campbell believes Everton should consider signing Berge

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge would be a good signing for Everton to make this summer.

The Norway international was revealed as a target for the Blues by Sky Sports earlier this month, with the report claiming that Arsenal are also leading the charge for his signature.

Having signed from Genk for a club-record fee of £22million almost 18-months ago, Berge isn’t expected to remain at Bramall Lane beyond the current season, with Football.London claiming the player has a preference for a move to the Emirates.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell was on board with an Everton switch for Berge when asked for his opinion on the recent transfer links.

Campbell said: “I just think Everton need a different type of player. Having players who are technical is one thing, but a lot of the time Everton are getting out done through sheer hard work.

“When you haven’t got [Abdoulaye] Doucoure or Allan there, sheer hard work and a bit of graft is outdoing Everton.

“When you do get beyond that first team, and Tom Davies as well because I feel he’s had not too bad of a season, there isn’t much in terms of graft.

“A lot of the time hard graft can get you across the line, so he [Berge] could be a good signing.”

Described as “brilliant” by former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, Berge has cut an impressive figure at Bramall Lane this season.

Everton should be considering possible midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window, with the club in dire need of bolstering that position.

The Blues have a strong record of signing relegated players, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye having joined the club in recent times, and Berge could have the potential to be a strong addition too.

In other Everton news, the Blues are in the hunt to sign proven Premier League centre-forward valued at £30million.
