Predicted Everton starting XI v Wolves
Everton recorded their ninth Premier League defeat at Goodison Park this season when they faced Sheffield United on Sunday.
The Blues had come off the back of a disappointing stalemate against Aston Villa, with their hopes of qualifying for Europe hanging in the balance.
Having further disappointed against the Blades, the Toffees now face Wolves in their final home game of the season, with Everton supporters to be welcomed back to the Grand Old Lady.
At Goodison News, we have named our predicted Everton XI to take on Wolves on Wednesday…
One of the easiest decisions that Carlo Ancelotti must make concerns his goalkeeping options, with Jordan Pickford almost guaranteed to start once again.
The England international was faultless against Sheffield United, completely unable to do anything about Daniel Jebbison’s goal, and Ancelotti will hope to see him continue his strong run of form.
Though Everton underperformed against the Blades, Ancelotti was quick to praise the club’s defence following the game and so we wouldn’t be surprised to see him stick with a similar shape.
Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne will naturally line-up on the flanks, while Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey will keep their starting spots. Mason Holgate has struggled recently so with Yerry Mina confirmed to be fit to play, the Colombian comes back into the team.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan appeared settled in Everton’s last game for the most part and with them both fit it’s unlikely that either will be replaced, despite the form of Tom Davies.
James Rodriguez struggled to impose his creative influence against Paul Heckingbottom’s men but Ancelotti will hope for more fortune this time around, while Richarlison will also be expected to up his game.
Left isolated against United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the only natural choice to lead the line against Wolves, and Everton will have to work hard to play him into the game.
It doesn’t seem likely that Everton will manage to qualify for Europe this season following their recent run of results, but the club will want to end the season on a high note.
With supporters returning to Goodison Park for the Wolves clash it will be down to the club to provide some joy, with many fans understandably disgruntled following the club’s recent failure to deliver.
Nuno Espirito Santo will also want to see his side end the season strongly, so it won’t be an easy task for the Toffees, but it’s one they’re more than qualified to overcome with the right mentality.
