View: Everton must improve home form as they register all-time low record in PL era
Despite sitting in 8th, Everton have endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign at home in the 2020/21 season.
The Toffees have played their 19th home game of the season, and after the table has been corrected to give teams three points per win, Everton have ended with their second-worst record in the club’s history.
Only in the 1957/58 season did Everton do worse (1.14 PPG) than they did this season – winning an embarrassing 1.16 points a game – totalling to 22 points in 19 games.
If only the home table would be considered for this season, Everton would find themselves in 15th place with a goal difference of -4.
Conversely, they would be 4th in the away table – ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool – and on 37 points with a +8 goal difference.
Need the Goodison magic
Not having fans this season has impacted Everton more than the other Premier League stands.
The Gwladys Street Singing Section in Goodison Park is rocking on matchdays and giving the players extra motivation to get the job done.
Last season, when there were fans for the majority of home games, we were 10th in the home table with 31 points.
Next season when we have fans shouting and singing in the stadium, it’s going to be vital as the team have looked a tad lethargic at home.
We’ve struggled to see off teams we should’ve and dropped points at crucial intervals.
At one point, looking at our fixtures, one could’ve argued that we could be realistic contenders for the top four, not just the top six, but we’ve withered away over the last few weeks.
Embarrassing results at home against Sheffield United, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Newcastle have seen us drop avoidable points. Had we won those games as we were expected to, we would be sitting comfortably in the top four, preparing for Champions League football next term.
There are no excuses for these kinds of performances and we have to improve as Carlo Ancelotti has been properly backed last summer and will again this time as well.
