Ancelotti reiterates Everton aim to sign goal-scoring winger this summer
Carlo Ancelotti has reiterated that Everton want to sign a goal-scoring winger this summer, explaining that the club have a clear transfer plan in place.
It had already been well publicised that the Toffees were keen on expanding their strength in depth in that position this summer, with many current first-team regulars failing to impress.
Alex Iwobi has been largely inconsistent while Ancelotti has been unable to give him a consistent run of games, and Bernard has mostly remained on the bench this season.
Speaking ahead of Everton’s final game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, Ancelotti explained that the club are on the same page over what they must work for in the transfer market.
Ancelotti said: “The plan is quite clear. We have time to talk in the next few weeks on how to improve the squad.
“The plan is clear and also the profile of player that we need is clear for everyone, so we have to work on it.
“The profile is a winger that is able to score goals, is able to defend, that is able to sacrifice, that is able to put crosses in.
“This kind of player is not easy to find. But if you look at the market and the players around the world, there are really a lot of good players around the world.”
Positive news
Though Wolves winger Adama Traore wasn’t able to carve out a goalscoring opportunity for Wolves on Thursday, the Spaniard was a fitting advert for what Everton should be targeting this summer.
Consistently looking to drive forward with pace, power and determination, Traore was an ever-present problem that Everton had to contain, regardless of the quality of his final ball.
Richarlison should fit a similar mould to Traore but unfortunately he has blown hot and cold this season, while none of the club’s other wide options have nearly the same impact.
It’ll never not be a positive to hear an Everton manager explain that he is aware of where the club need to improve their squad, but now we need to see Ancelotti and Marcel Brands come together to ensure they can nail the execution.
The duo worked well together last season, with each of Ben Godfrey, Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Rodriguez and Allan improving the squad. Here’s hoping that they can do so again and find the right players to elevate the Blues to the next level.
In other Everton news, the Blues are in advanced talks over a mega-money sale of this player.
