Ancelotti has positive outlook on Everton season despite disappointing finish

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that he has a positive outlook on Everton’s season, despite the recent struggles that the club have faced.

The Blues had looked certain to qualify for Europe under the Italian but after a string of negative results in the final months of the campaign the club would slump to a tenth place finish in the Premier League table.

Everton had hoped to break into Europe this season but a mixture of injuries and a lack of quality ultimately prevented the club from building up any serious momentum.

Speaking after Everton’s embarrassing 5-0 drubbing at the hands of the Premier League champions on Sunday, Ancelotti insisted that he has been left “quite happy” by the progress that the club have made.

When asked for his thoughts on the club’s season, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti said: :Quite happy because we improved compared to last season.

“We have 10 more points on the table, we had some fantastic results – we won the derby, we won against some top teams but we were not good at home and this is where we have to improve and work in the summer to find the right players to improve the squad.

“We have a clear idea, a clear plan on how we can improve the squad. In the summer we will follow this plan. We have to put, in general, more quality in the squad to try to play more attractive football, to defend better at the back. This is where we are working.”

Everton

At least someone’s positive

Everton having earned 10 more points than they did last year does show marginal improvement on the pitch, but let’s be honest it hardly shows us the full picture.

Many of the clubs who have finished above the Blues this season have been inconsistent at best throughout the campaign, presenting Everton with their best possible chance to breach the top six, but late season performances have ultimately let them down.

Ancelotti doesn’t have the right amount of quality within his squad to effectively launch an assault on the Champions League spots, but he does have enough to make it into the Europa League, and his players have let him down over the past few weeks.

We need to see an improvement next season, more than just in terms of technical ability on the pitch but also in the attitude of the players that wear the Everton shirt. 10 more points is progress, but qualifying for Europe would have been a much better way to ensure progress.
