Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe Ancelotti is under pressure at Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe that Carlo Ancelotti is under pressure at Everton after failing to qualify for Europe.

The Toffees had fought for the majority of the season to secure qualification to Europe ahead of next season, with the Champions League spots within touching distance at one point.

However the Blues ultimately ended up finishing in tenth, overtaken by both Leeds United and Arsenal on the final day, despite their high points tally.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell dismissed talk that Ancelotti could find himself under pressure for failing to deliver Europe.

Campbell said: “I don’t think he’s under pressure, I think the way the team finished in the second half of the season puts pressure on the football club, and everybody feels pressure because in the first half of the season they were really good.

“You still look at the points tally they’ve got. That points tally was sixth last season, 59 points, and now it’s dropping down. It goes to show you how tough this league is.

“I think Carlo Ancelotti has done a really good job. What it does do is shine a light on the players, it shines a light on certain players who aren’t good enough.

“When you have injuries and you have to shuffle your pack, if you don’t have players who are good enough or experienced enough to handle the pressure, you’re never going to make it.

“That’s the project Ancelotti is going for, and he didn’t want to make too many moves too soon. He knew he needed a new engine room and he put the engine in, and now they need more finesse and more offence.”

Ancelotti simply needs time to continue building his squad on Merseyside and failure to reach Europe this season shouldn’t distract from that.

Europe would have sped up the process but failing to reach it doesn’t send it off course. Ancelotti has a plan and we must remain patient as it plays out.
