Fabrizio Romano quashes Max Aarons to Everton links
Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has ruled out an Everton pursuit for Norwich City’s highly-rated right-back Max Aarons this summer.
The 21-year-old has been subject to transfer interest from a number of top European sides over the last 12 months but has continued to remain at Norwich thus far. The Canaries have done a good job of keeping hold of their prized asset, but it’s getting increasingly likely that Aarons departs in the coming months.
Even though Norwich have sealed promotion back into the Premier League, the player believes he has outgrown the club and is looking for a new challenge to help take his game to the next level.
He would also be having initial aspirations, and given England’s vast talent pool in the full-back position, his chances of being picked regularly would improve if he’s at a bigger club that preferably is not a relegation threat whenever they’re in the Premier League.
Everton looked like one such club keen on signing him, but it now looks like the player is not an option any longer for the club, with Romano sharing a definitive two-word response to the reports linking him with the Merseyside outfit.
Huge blow
We knew that signing Aarons was going to be tough, but this pursuit does not look like the club took that deal too seriously.
The player is desperate to move, Norwich have said they’re open to selling their high players as it would help them with finances to build a more balanced squad, but it seems the Everton hierarchy aren’t convinced by what they see.
This is extremely baffling as despite being such a solid full-back going forward, his defensive abilities are also equally impressive.
This season, Aarons has averaged nearly five defensive duels won every game and has blocked 3.33 shots per 90 – making him one of Europe’s top-ranked full-backs in that department. [StatsBomb]
The Athletic spoke to those who know the player well, with one describing him as “unbelievably quick”. He’s also been called “outstanding” by Canaries boss Daniel Farke
Not signing him will be a shame, but we’re hoping that we’re able to get a right-back to challenge Seamus Coleman this summer.
