Wolfsburg want £12.8m for Everton target Josip Brekalo

Everton will have to pay at least £12.8million to sign Croatian forward Josip Brekalo from Wolfsburg in the summer, according to BILD.

The German newspaper reports Leeds, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli are also interested in the 22-year-old, who scored seven goals and supplied four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Wolfsburg this season.

Brekalo’s contract at Wolfsburg will enter its final 24 months this summer with clubs beginning to queue up to sign the Croatia international.

Lightning fast and ready to tear up PL

Brekalo has been in some form at Wolfsburg.

He played a major role in his side qualifying for the Champions League this season as they finished fourth in the Bundesliga, netting some huge goals in the last few weeks.

Wolfsburg finished fourth by just one point but in the last eight matches, they won just three times with Brekalo being the match-winner by scoring goals in two of those victories.

Brekalo’s ability to get past defenders and create chances – or score them himself – is largely down to his short stature, agility and pace.

The lightning-quick forward was tipped for a career in athletics by his former coach Slavko Petrovic [Bundesliga website] but based on his performances in Germany, he definitely took the correct career path.

Brekalo has also been compared to PSV star and Germany World Cup winner Mario Gotze when he was at his peak.

According to the Bundesliga website, “the Croatian’s pace, nifty feet and eye for goal, coupled with his pint-sized stature, all make for one tricky customer not too dissimilar to peak Mario Götze”.

Brekalo seems like he’d be a snip at £12.8million and we’d be happy for Marcel Brands to go out and land this up-and-coming star.
