Kevin Campbell claims that Bernard will leave Everton this summer
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell accepts that it is time for Bernard to move from Goodison Park with Everton seeking a summer exit for the Brazilian.
The 28-year old winger, who joined the Blues on a free transfer after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, struggled for regular game time last season.
Starting just three times in 12 Premier League appearances, Bernard saw himself drop down the pecking order on Merseyside, leading to exit talks in January that would eventually break down.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell explained that Bernard was certain to leave the Toffees this summer, with the club looking for players of a higher calibre.
Campbell said: “His [Bernard] time’s up.
“Everton were probably hoping he would be that type of player but it hasn’t quite worked.
“He scored a couple of goals, he’s a nice guy and a nice player but the level has moved now.”
Initially Bernard found some success at Everton as a tricky winger with pace and ball-playing ability, but unfortunately it would prove short lived.
The Brazilian has been largely ineffectual when brought off the bench this season and that will have made Ancelotti’s mind up over his future, especially with the Blues seeking wide reinforcements this summer.
Bernard has just over a year remaining on his contract on Merseyside and that should see Everton make a small sum of profit on the midfielder when they find him a new home this summer.
In other Everton news, this left-footed Toffees ace is on the verge of a major decision as clubs line up to sign him.
