Everton interested in Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio

Everton are among a number of clubs who are interested in signing Inter Milan Danilo D’Ambrosio this summer, according to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato.

Speaking to Italian radio station Kiss Kiss Napoli, Venerato was asked for an update on Napoli’s hunt to sign the 32-year-old, whose contract at Inter Milan expires next month.

TuttoNapoli quotes Venerato as saying: “D’Ambrosio? At the moment there are teams ahead [of Napoli].

“Napoli talked to his entourage without sinking the blow.

“The player is followed by Lazio, Milan, Rome and Everton.

“At the moment he is not a concrete objective [for Napoli].”

Defensive back-up

D’Ambrosio is a very experienced defender in Italy having made over 230 Serie A appearances across spells at Inter Milan and Torino.

He played a role in Inter winning Serie A this season, appearing 19 times in the league and scoring three goals in the process.

While mainly a right-back, the seven-times Italy international played a lot of matches as a right-sided centre-back this season for Antonio Conte.

Everton could do with adding to their defence in the summer but as D’Ambrosio’s game-time at Inter dropped this season, and the fact he will turn 33 in September, means he isn’t really a great option.

Sure, he has a lot of experience having played 233 times in all competitions for Inter Milan. And yes, he’s going to be available on a free transfer.

But he’d be nothing more than a back-up option for Carlo Ancelotti and we’d like to see players come in who can improve the starting line-up ahead of next season.

In other Everton news, this left-footed Toffees ace is on the verge of a major decision as clubs line up to sign him.
