Kevin Campbell shares instant reaction with Carlo Ancelotti to leave Everton
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Carlo Ancelotti will not have been able to say no to Real Madrid when they came knocking on Tuesday.
It has been confirmed in the past half-an-hour that the Italian has moved on to take charge after a whirlwind year in Merseyside.
Campbell believes that the Toffees will have had a plan in place, as they look set to lose a “world-class” manager who believed in their project.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It’s a huge blow.
“Sometimes when a club like Real Madrid call, it changes everything. I’m sure there has to be a plan, if he’s going to make that move, there’s going to have to be someone or a plan in place.
“World-class manager who was committed to the project, but this is a super club we’re talking about in Real Madrid, so if they start knocking on the door, there has to be some agreement.
“Everton would love to keep him, but they’re not going to stand in his way.”
Goodbye.
This came out of nowhere, but we would be lying if we admitted that it has surprised us.
It has happened very quickly, meaning that it can’t have taken much thought for Ancelotti to leave Everton looking for a new manager this month.
Our 10th-placed finish in the Premier League was a shocker, and possibly European football next season could have made somewhat of a difference.
That is obviously clutching at straws, though.
Campbell is spot on; when a club like Real Madrid come calling, it is hard to say no and we expect this to have been even harder with it being Ancelotti’s former club.
This summer has now turned into a critical stage at the club, and this will determine whether we move forward, or come crashing down after this big blow.
