Real Madrid made contact over hiring Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti four days ago
Real Madrid made contact about potentially hiring Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti as their new boss four days ago, according to La Larguero.
The Spanish news outlet reports on Twitter that “sources close to the negotiation are quite optimistic” about it being completed.
More worryingly for Everton fans, it is understood that “Ancelotti’s environment believes that it is an option that he cannot reject”.
Ancelotti’s contract at Everton doesn’t expire until 2024 so it remains to be seen what kind of compensation package the Toffees would be due to the Italian returns to the Bernabeu to replace Zinedine Zidane.
Bombshell
Well, we didn’t see this coming.
While Ancelotti’s first full season in charge of Everton ended with a whimper, we didn’t expect to see the club scrambling to keep hold of him amid interest from Real Madrid.
Ancelotti managed Los Blancos between 2013 and 2015.
His spell at the Bernabeu ended with him being sacked even though he had won the Champions League title and Copa Del Rey a year earlier.
It doesn’t make too much sense for a manager to go back to a club who unfairly sacked him but it sounds as though Real must be offering the Italian a good deal for it to be something he “cannot reject”.
We really don’t want to see Ancelotti leave but the ball is in our court.
Farhad Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Marcel Brands will be able to set a compensation price that Real Madrid will have to meet, first and foremost.
That money could boost our transfer budget a lot for this summer – but do we really need that?
Above all else, we need a proven manager who knows how to win silverware and Ancelotti’s that man.
We fear that if he goes, we don’t get anyone near as good as him.
In other Everton news, the Blues want to sign this exit-bound Inter Milan star this summer.
