Frank Lampard on Everton shortlist to replace Carlo Ancelotti
Former Chelsea player and manager Frank Lampard is in the running to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Everton, according to The Mirror.
The newspaper claims the Toffees board met on Tuesday to discuss a shortlist of managers who they could turn to after Ancelotti quit Goodison Park in order to return to Real Madrid.
Ex-Blues bosses David Moyes and Roberto Martinez are both candidates while Lampard, Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira are also of interest to the Merseyside club.
Super Frank
Lampard is definitely the least experienced of those linked with the vacancy at Everton.
The 42-year-old became a household name during his playing days at Chelsea and impressed in his first management gig at Derby County, taking them to the Championship play-off final.
He was then offered the manager’s position at Stamford Bridge and managed to achieve Champions League qualification in his first season despite there being a transfer embargo.
At the end of the 2019/20 season, in March, Lampard humiliated Ancelotti in the Premier League as he led Chelsea to a massive 4-0 win against Everton in London.
Even Willian scored on that day it was such a ridiculously bad performance by the Toffees.
However, this season saw Ancelotti turn the tables as he led Everton to win 1-0 against Chelsea at Goodison Park in December, not long before the London club sacked their former midfielder.
Lampard’s had a decent spell in management so far but he doesn’t stand out on a list of names who are far more established as top managers.
Maybe in the future, but not now.
In other Everton news, the Blues are readying a swoop to hire this ex-Premier League manager.
