Kevin Campbell: Everton could make major statement appointing Antonio Conte

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton would make a major statement by appointing Antonio Conte to replace Carlo Ancelotti.

Simon Jordan shut down the idea live on talkSPORT, insisting that the Italian wouldn’t want to take over after winning Serie A and then leaving Inter Milan this summer.

The Toffees board were left scrambling after Ancelotti quit Goodison Park on Tuesday evening, and numerous names have already been linked.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I don’t think it’s out of the question.

“What a statement that would be. Again, Conte has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, and if we could get him in, he has history of doing well.

“If Everton can pull the trigger then they have done brilliantly.”

Statement.

This would be huge, and a real warning to the rest of the Premier League that Everton mean business as they enter a new stage of their history.

Conte had little financial power at the San Siro, and if backed, he could make a real squad ready to challenge for European football with relative ease.

After working with Ancelotti for more than a year in Merseyside, the Toffees are ready to kick on, and Conte could be the man to be at the helm for that.

Conte has tasted success with Inter, so it could be classed as a step down to move to Everton, who won’t be at a point to challenge for the Premier League title for many years.

Farhad Moshiri will want to make a statement with this appointment, and there wouldn’t be many bigger than bringing Conte back to the Premier League.
