Kevin Campbell View: Everton stadium plans take big hit after Ancelotti exit
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton must put their stadium plans on the backburner as they hunt for a new manager this summer.
The bombshell dropped on Tuesday evening that Carlo Ancelotti had left Goodison Park to rejoin his former side Real Madrid and replace Zinedine Zidane.
Campbell has singled out Nuno Espirito Santo as the one man who could come in and make a difference, starting with getting the Toffees more organised.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Yes, I think it would be.
“He [Nuno] knows the Premier League, he plays in a good system and knows how to set teams up. I think Everton could do with someone like that.
“The big project for the new stadium has to take a backstep in a sense, they need someone in to organise the team and get them competitive.
“They’ve had a good season, but if they’re going to lose someone such as Ancelotti, they have to be competitive.”
Good news.
It appears as though Campbell had his prediction on point this week.
Sky Sports have since reported that Nuno has entered talks with Everton, and has left the likes of Farhad Moshiri thrilled.
The former Wolves man is said to be the front runner and has the support of the majority of the board members at Goodison Park.
Whoever comes in next must get on board with the project in Merseyside, with the new stadium a big step into moving to that next level.
Should Nuno come in and succeed, he could bring European football to the Blues ahead of this massive move in the future.
