Marcel Brands could push for Everton signing Dumfries this summer

Everton director of football Marcel Brands could push for the club signing Denzel Dumfries from PSV Eindhoven this summer, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Christopher Beesley.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Friday, Beesley reports that Brands is keen to push for Dumfries with whoever is appointed as the next manager at Goodison Park.

He’s told that the 25-year-old PSV captain is expected to leave Eindhoven in the summer and that Everton are looking to capitalise on that by handing him an exit route.

The news of Everton’s interest was first broken by the Dutch press late on Thursday evening. [Voetbal International]

He reportedly made his intentions clear to the Eredivisie outfit that he believes he deserves to play at a higher level, and that they should sanction an exit in the coming few months.

Interesting move

There’s been no mention of a transfer fee, but he’s valued at £14m by Transfermarkt and we expect PSV to demand something around that region.

At 25, he’s at the ripe age of taking the next step in his career and has proven to be a dependable cog in the PSV side.

It’s no secret that we’re in the market for a right-back, and Dumfries could be the ideal signing given his age and price.

There has been previous Premier League interest in his services, most notably a couple of years ago, when Manchester United were looking for a right-back.

They eventually signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but a £25m bid for the Dutch international was being talked about at the time. [talkSPORT]

Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder has referred to him as an ‘explosive’ right-back. Having watched him play in Europe and for the Netherlands for whom he’s been capped 18 times, we can second Ryder’s assessment of the player.
