Mike Parry hits out at Farhad Moshiri and Marcel Brands over running of Everton
Mike Parry has launched a stinging verbal attack on high-ranking Everton duo Farhad Moshiri and Marcel Brands over their running of the football club.
The Blues fan and former talkSPORT host took aim at the owner and director of football as Everton look for a new manager following Carlo Ancelotti’s defection to Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Everton FC News posted a Liverpool Echo article and tweeted that “Brands should flex his muscles”, a phrase Parry took great exception to.
Hitting back on his personal Twitter profile, he wrote: “Marcel Brands should flex his muscles, should he? Buy a few more expensive duds, eh!
“He’s pictured alongside our billionaire owner who knows as much about running a mighty football club like Everton as I know about how to steer the Ferry across the Royal Blue Mersey…”
Huge summer ahead
Parry may have been a little harsh on the duo, but there can be no denying that there are still major question marks surrounding them both, and they must prove to supporters that they are capable of delivering success to the club.
In the case of Brands, it’s fair to say he has had his fair share of howlers in the transfer market.
The likes of Davy Klaassen and Alex Iwobi spring to mind, and in the current squad, only Richarlison, Lucas Digne and Ben Godfrey can consider themselves to be unqualified successes so far.
However, how much control has he had over signings with Ancelotti at the helm? The Italian tactician is one of the world’s most renowned managers and he surely had a big say in the transfer policy which saw us recruit players with little resale value last summer, such as Allan and James Rodriguez.
This will be Brands’ fourth summer transfer window, and it will most certainly be his biggest.
Moshiri, meanwhile, cannot be blamed for not putting his hand in his pocket, and he has placed great faith in the talents of Brands and Ancelotti to deliver.
But he cannot be completely blame-free, and he now needs to step up and deliver a manager that will share our core beliefs in the short, medium and long-term, otherwise we run the risk of another mediocre season again.
