Report: Everton keen to offer £25m-rated Miralem Pjanic an exit route
Everton are reportedly interested in signing wantaway Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic this summer.
According to Fichajes.net, Pjanic is set to leave the Camp Nou in this window after a disappointing season under Ronald Koeman.
Barcelona have been facing their own financial problems of late, so will be open to the idea of cashing in on the player in a desperate bid to raise resources and strengthen their squad to compete for La Liga and the Champions League.
Transfermarkt values the player at £25m, but the report suggests that Barcelona are holding out for a fee north of £30m which could prise Everton out of the deal.
Worth exploring
The Bosnian, who has been capped 100 times, is a player that will divide opinions. He was exceptional for Juventus but has looked average at best in a Barcelona jersey.
That’s not to say that he’s become less of a player since moving to Spain, but his career hasn’t gone the way he planned it would, and he’s now looking for an alternative where he can rediscover his previous form and get regular playing time.
At £30m, he’s surely going to be viewed as one too expensive, but if there’s a deal to be made, we’re sure that he would work out to be a good signing for us for a cheaper price.
He’s technical, creative and very good at set-pieces. He would instantly strengthen our midfield and help our attackers and full-backs in creating chances.
His experience of playing in over 80 Champions League games will certainly rub off on some of the younger players in the dressing and his signing would be a signal of intent even though Carlo Ancelotti is not at the helm anymore.
At 31, he is on the older side, so that’s one thing that could see the hierarchy tread with caution as he could be susceptible to injuries and a move to a fast-paced and physical league like the English top-flight may have come at the wrong stage in his career.
It will be interesting to see how this transpires.
