Moshiri weighs up 'Shock' Rafa Benitez appointment at Everton

Farhad Moshiri is “weighing up what would be the most unexpected appointment” in Everton history by considering a move for Rafa Benitez, according to the Irish Independent.

The newspaper reports that the ex-Liverpool is available, ready to return to management and is already situated on Merseyside.

It is understood that the Blues have been in touch with Benitez, 61, and majority shareholder Moshiri has turned his attention towards the Spaniard amid failed attempts to hire Nuno Espirito Santo and David Moyes.

Shock appointment?

Would it really be a shock if Everton hired Benitez?

The Madrid-born boss has managed teams like Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid and Newcastle.

He’s won La Liga, the FA Cup, the Champions League the Europa League and UEFA manager of the year on two occasions.

Would it really be a shock for Everton to hire a manager with that kind of CV?

Of course, if he’s hired, he would become the first manger to take charge of both Everton and Liverpool in his career but when someone as good as Benitez comes along, something like that has to be overlooked.

Yes, he managed our biggest rivals and yes, he’s absolutely adored on the red side of Stanley Park. But if we were to hire Benitez it would hurt them a lot more than it would us.

Benitez is a great manager who’s shown that he can work with a limited budget at Newcastle.

He’d be a great appointment.
