Marcus Bent wants Tim Cahill to be Duncan Ferguson’s assistant at Everton
Former Everton striker Marcus Bent has made a left-field suggestion by stating he wants Tim Cahill to be the assistant to Duncan Ferguson who he believes should be the new manager.
The Toffees have been linked with numerous managers in the past 10 days, and while Nuno Espirito Santo looks like he’s closing in on the job [Fabrizio Romano], nothing has been finalised thus far.
However, Bent is of the opinion that assistant coach Big Dunc should be handed the keys to the Everton throne rather than appointing an outside manager who doesn’t get the club ethos as he does.

Discussing appointing Ferguson and his potential assistant coach, Bent told Football FanCast, “Tim [Cahill] has got to go in as assistant manager, Dunc [Duncan Ferguson] would be the manager.
“Tim is currently in Dubai getting a little more intelligence around the game and around the world. The fans adore him.
“But Dunc has been there a while since Moyesy left, and had that little stint, so maybe give him a chance.”
Tad early for that
While Big Dunc has proven himself to be a very good communicator and motivator, he’s still got a lot to learn and would be better off taking a job elsewhere before coming back to Goodison Park.
Often clubs these days tend to take the easy route and go for their ex players as managers because they feel they love the club and understand the culture around it.

While that’s true, it’s not wise to hire him over someone with the tactical prowess of winning big matches and leagues.
Nuno may not be the winner we aspire and most certainly need, but his track record at Wolves makes a valid case for his selection.
We’d surely love to see Cahill back at the club as it’s a place he loves with all his heart, and maybe in the future he could join as a coach.
As of now, the Australian is getting his foot through the door in that aspect of the game, and like Duncan, has some way to go before he’s ready to take that giant leap.
