Mirror: Everton lead chase for Real Madrid star Marcelo after Carlo Ancelotti sanctions exit
Everton are the leading the race to sign highly-decorated Brazilian star Marcelo from Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.
The report claims the 33-year-old is not in the plans of new manager Carlo Ancelotti, who left Merseyside to return to Madrid on June 1.
Ancelotti is keen for the £5million-rated left-back to leave despite saying that he “has a lot of love” for him on June 2 [Fabrizio Romano].

Marcelo’s agents are said to be searching for a new destination, and he would prefer a move to England or Italy, as per the Mirror’s report.
The four-time Champions League winner, who Brazil legend Cafu called “sensational” in February [Marca], also wants a two-year contract.

Surely not
If there is one position we don’t need to add an expensive star, it’s at left-back.
Lucas Digne has been one of our most consistent performers since his 2018 arrival from Barcelona, and he is probably the first name on the teamsheet when he’s fit.
Back-up for the Frenchman is required, given Ben Godfrey and Alex Iwobi were required to deputise for him last season, though 20-year-old Niels Nkounkou is also in reserve.
We certainly don’t need a Real Madrid cast-off to play expensive second fiddle to Digne, particularly given the fact we will have no European commitments next season, and the hope will be that the Blues defender does not suffer a reoccurrence of his injury in the 2020/21 campaign.
Marcelo is undoubtedly still a very talented player who can continue to thrive at a top team, but it’s not a deal we should be pursuing given the number of reinforcements required to other areas of our squad ahead of next season.
