View: One Wolves statistic should worry Everton fans ahead of expected Nuno appointment
Former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is all but set to become the new Everton manager after Carlo Ancelotti parted ways with the club to join Real Madrid.
At one point in time, it looked like Nuno was on the cusp of joining Crystal Palace, but once his talks broke down with the London outfit, there was only one club he was realistically going to join.
It still isn’t a done deal, however, but it’s almost certain that he will be announced the new boss in the coming days. [Fabrizio Romano]
The stat mentioned above highlights just how defensively Nuno set up his side this past season.
He relied on his players to play a low block and hold a structured shape and only play on the counter-attack, rather than control possession and playing the game on their terms.
Worrying stat
While Nuno’s results at Wolves have been decent, there’s always been doubts about his style of play.
At Everton, we’ve had managers that prioritised playing defensive football, but usually, the way to get the Goodison Park excited is to play on the front foot with players expressing themselves.

In our squad, we’ve got plenty of plays with individual brilliance who may not like being told to be 50 yards away from goal when the team is without the ball.
The modern game is based around pressing and it’s no surprise that sides like Newcastle and Wolves, who find themselves on the wrong end of that chart, have had forgetful seasons.
Nuno will certainly have to change his style of play very quickly or he could risk losing the support of the fanbase.
