Denzel Dumfries would be perfect Everton signing – View
Everton target Denzel Dumfries put in an exceptional performance for the Netherlands in their 3-2 victory against Ukraine at the European Championships.
The Toffees are understood to be looking for a right-back this summer and have identified PSV Eindhoven’s Dumfries as an option to be the long-term successor to Seamus Coleman.
According to Liverpool Echo journalist Christopher Beesley, Everton are interested in the Netherlands right-back and Marcel Brands could push for the 25-year-old once the new manager is appointed.
Would be an ideal signing for us
Dumfries may have missed two big chances in the first half, before eventually putting the ball into the back of the net, but it’s not the responsibility of full-backs to be clinical in front of goal.
The fact that he’s getting into those positions is reassuring in itself as that’s where strikers usually tend to thrive.
His blistering runs forward from the right wing-back position saw him play a role in the first two goals, and he put the cherry on the cake by scoring the winner after his side failed to hold on to their lead.
Looking at the statistics below, all the other players mentioned are strikers or inside forwards carrying the goal-scoring or creative responsibilities for their teams.
However, Dumfries, who’s often seen as a solid defender but suspect going forward, tops the list, which only proves that he’s clearly worked on that aspect of his game and with the adequate cover can be devastating in that role.
According to Statsbomb’s data, he finds himself in the top one per cent, in comparison full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues, for aerial duels won per 90 minutes with 4.06.
He’s also in the top six per cent for interceptions, averaging almost two per game.
Signing a player like him would give us a complete full-back who’s capable of being played as a wing-back as we saw against Ukraine.
If Nuno Espirito Santo is our new manager, he would probably love the idea of having Dumfries in his side.
