Marcus Bent tips Everton to let go of Fabian Delph

Former Everton striker Marcus Bent is expecting his old club to let go of out-of-favour midfielder Fabian Delph this summer.

The 31-year-old has just 12 months left on the three-year deal he signed when he joined the Toffees from Manchester City in July 2019, and has been on the sidelines for the majority of his time on Merseyside.

Delph played just 10 games across all competitions for Everton last term, failing to make the matchday squads under former manager Carlo Ancelotti at times.

Bent reckons the Toffees would be looking to cut their losses in order to save some money.

“I think they will be looking to speak to him kindly and move him on,” the ex-Everton forward told The Transfer Tavern

“He will probably get a good move, but he’s on good wages.”

Good move

Delph earns around £80,000-per-week at Goodison Park [Spotrac], and Everton would save around £4million in wages for a season if they manage to move him on.

Despite his struggles at the club, the former England international is not likely to be short of suitors this summer.

Newly-promoted clubs, Championship outfits and clubs outside of England could be keen on having his valuable experience within their ranks.

Many of them would struggle to match his wages, though, and whether he is willing to take a huge pay cut is unknown.

Delph does not look like someone comfortable with sitting on the bench and at home just to pick up his paycheck every week.

He left Man City to play regularly having been frustrated with his lack of action, and while things have not gone as planned at Everton, he could look to move elsewhere in the coming weeks.
