Noises from Italy say Robin Olsen will be unwanted at Roma amid Everton speculation

Robin Olsen is being left in limbo due to the managerial upheaval at Everton, accordng to The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland.

Carlo Ancelotti signed Olsen, 31, on loan from Roma last summer and has since wanted to strike a permanent deal for the Sweden goalkeeper. However, the Italian’s unexpected move to Real Madrid has seemingly thrown that into doubt.

It is understood that with his loan spell in Merseyside over, Olsen has returned to Roma but “noises from Italy are that he will almost certainly be surplus to requirements” as Jose Mourinho seeks to make changes in the Italian capital.

Not a priority

We’re sorry, Robin. But a deal for the Sweden international simply isn’t a priority right now and Marcel Brands is better off waiting until the managerial situation is cleared up beforehand.

Of course, it would be good for Brands to have a deal in place for Olsen that simply needs to be approved by whoever succeeds Ancelotti in the Goodison Park hot seat.

And at the end of the day, it’s not as though Olsen would be a key signing as he’d only be signed as a back-up for when Jordan Pickford is unavailable or for use in cup matches.

If Roma don’t want Olsen then it’s likely that he’ll be available on the cheap and that he’ll be willing to sign permanently for the Blues.

He would be a good signing based on what we saw of him last season while he also impressed in Sweden’s Euro 2020 opener against Spain as he made five saves to earn his nation a 0-0 draw with the two-times winners [WhoScored].

Let’s see how the manager situation develops first and once someone is appointed, that is when we’d expect to see movement in the transfer market.

Unfortunately for Olsen, he’ll have to sit tight and wait but at least he can use the European Championships as a platform to impress and put himself in the shop window if an offer fails to materalise from Everton.
