Nuno could still be appointed Everton manager despite huge Benitez news
Everton could still hire Nuno Espirito Santo as their next manager despite widespread reports a deal for Rafa Benitez is close, according to the Irish Independent.
On Wednesday night, multiple news outlets reported that Benitez was on the verge of taking charge at Goodison Park but it is now understood that in a remarkable twist, ex-Wolves boss Nuno could still succeed Carlo Ancelotti in charge of the Blues.
The Irish Independent adds that it appeared an agreement was reached with Nuno last week but those reports had “not been ratified”.

But even though their sources say a deal for Benitez “was close” on Wednesday night, Nuno might still be the next man in charge at Goodison.
What is going on?
Each time it’s reported that someone is close to a job, another twist is laid out for Everton fans to endure.
Last week, it seemed like Nuno was about to get the job.
This week, it’s Benitez.
However now, it looks as though Nuno could actually still be hired by the Toffees.

Ultimately, it seems as though both managers are keen to succeed Ancelotti and the decision is down to the Everton board to decide on which one they want.
And again, it looks as though Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri are pulling in different directions.
Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles has reported that there is a rift emerging behind the scenes with Kenwright pushing to hire ex-Liverpool manager Benitez, even though it’s unlikely to be well-received by the fans.
However, the Daily Mail’s Dominic King has reported that majority shareholder Moshiri has sent a written offer to Nuno in the last week.
Kenwright and Moshiri need to get on the same wavelength otherwise one or both of these managers could walk away from what is starting to look like a bit of a mess behind the scenes.
In other Everton news, this Toffees ace has posted a picture of himself in a Leicester shirt on social media.
