Nathan Broadhead signs new two-year contract after Carlo Ancelotti recommendation
Everton winger Nathan Broadhead has put pen to paper over a new two-year deal, according to their club website.
The 23-year-old, who made his Premier League debut against Brighton in April, is now contracted to Everton until the end of June 2023.
The club also sent their congratulations to the Welshman on their official Twitter profile.
It also appears that recently-departed Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti played a big role in Broadhead’s extended terms.
The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland wrote on his personal Twitter profile following Everton’s confirmation: “He impressed Ancelotti in training, who recommended that the club give him a new deal.”
Uninspiring
We’re delighted for Broadhead, who has clearly worked hard to earn his new deal with the club after scoring 11 goals in 11 Under-23s matches.
But, at 23, is this really an exciting move for Blues fans to hear about?
It’s coming up to four years since his Everton debut against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League [07/12/17], and yet his outing against Brighton was only the second of his Blues career.
After the likes of Matthew Pennington and Luke Garbutt stayed at the club until their mid-late twenties, it’s becoming a concern that we just hand these contracts out without much thought as to the value of them.
It’s not like we’ve done it to protect the value of players – we made nothing on Pennington or Garbutt who have both eventually left for lower-league sides.
Broadhead will be 25 by the time his new deal runs out, and will he be an established first-team member by then? It seems highly improbable.
We wish him the best of luck and hope he proves us wrong, but there are some peculiar moves being made by the board.
In other Everton news, the Blues’ search for a new manager is nearly over as Farhad Moshiri schedules a final meeting to rubberstamp a contract for this coach.
