Joe Anderson turns down English clubs to pen Everton extension
Everton defender Joe Anderson has turned down interest from Football League clubs to pen a new one-year deal at Goodison Park, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The 20-year-old’s contract at the club was set to run out at the end of this month, but his future, at least for the next 12 months, is set to be on Merseyside, having penned a new deal.
His aim is to become a first-team player sooner rather than later, and for that reason, he was subject to interest from an array of English clubs.

However, he plans to stay put at Goodison Park and impress in pre-season when the team returns next month.
He said, “I am going to start my pre-season now and come back fitter and stronger.
“I am one of the senior [Under-23] lads and want more responsibility… to take a few younger lads under my wing and help them through their first years.”
Right kind of attitude
It’s always nice to see youngsters commit their futures to their boyhood clubs and we hope next season is the one where Anderson kicks on to the next level and can soon put himself into first-team contention.
At 20, he’s still got plenty to give and learn, and depending on the new manager, he could be one of the breakthrough players if he impresses in pre-season as he said he plans to.

If we rope in a manager that makes a promise to the club to promote youngsters, then Anderson is one of the players who could flourish as he seems to be knocking on the door of a first-team berth.
With many of our players likely to be offered extended leaves of absence for pre-season due to their Euro 2020 commitments, Anderson is likely to get more playing minutes than he previously would have and if he’s really as good as he thinks he is, now’s the time to back up his words.
