Eddie Howe must be in contention as Moshiri reportedly walks away from Benitez

Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe should be in contention and one of the favourites to take over the Everton job after a major development on Monday morning.

According to talkSPORT, the Toffees have pulled the plug on their decision to appoint former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.

This news comes on the back of protests from the Everton faithful who went to Goodison Park to hang banners voicing their displeasure over the move.

However, while they’ve definitively said it’s not going to happen, Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers has stated that the news of it being off is a tad premature.

That said, given the reaction of the Everton fans, it seems improbable that Benitez will still be handed the keys to the Goodison Park hot seat.

Has to be Howe then?

Howe’s been in the mix since Carlo Ancelotti left for Real Madrid, but at no point was he the frontrunner for the position.

The likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Christophe Galtier and Benitez all looked plausible after different stages over the last two weeks.

But, with now all three of them likely to be out of the reason, the Toffees board could turn their attention on Howe.
