Duncan Ferguson likely to take charge of Everton pre-season if new boss hasn’t arrived

Everton are yet to appoint a boss to succeed the departed Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, with pre-season preparations kicking off on July 5.

The Toffees begin their 2021-22 Premier League campaign on August 14 with a clash against Southampton at Goodison Park, and they need to announce their new manager as soon as possible.

According to the Daily Mail, Ancelotti’s assistant Duncan Ferguson will likely take charge of their pre-season tour if the club are still without a manager by then.

Why not appoint Big Dunc?

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is said to be favourites for the Everton job at the moment, but is yet to be offered an official contract [Mirror].

It appears that the fans backlash is giving owner Farhad Moshiri second thoughts, and we think he should save himself the trouble and appoint Ferguson.

Non-international players resume for pre-season in two weeks and will be training under the former striker if Ancelotti’s successor has not arrived.

Getting a manager is proving herculean for us, but there is one potentially capable of outperforming the last four managers right under Moshiri’s nose.

Everton

It is a big claim, but Ferguson has what it takes to lead Everton to the next level and succeed where Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and Ancelotti all failed.

The Scot knows and loves this club than any one of them and is well-loved by the fans.

Admittedly, he lacks the experience, but even the well-travelled Champions League-winning Italian could not take us any closer to our dreams.

Time to try something different?
