Everton have to appoint Duncan Ferguson as manager after Rafa Benitez fan backlash

Everton might not be hiring Rafa Benitez as manager following a backlash from fans and Duncan Ferguson now appears to be the most sensible move.

According to talkSPORT, the deal to hire Benitez has gone quiet amid uproar from Evertonians about hiring the former Liverpool boss.

Finally some sense

We can only be glad if this development turns out to be indeed true.

Having a former Liverpool manager calling the shots at Goodison Park is taboo, and Benitez would not have been given a warm welcome by the fans had the appointment gone ahead.

Everton owner Farhadi Moshiri needs not go far in his search for a manager as we believe that he has one right under his nose.

Ferguson!

The 49-year-old was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff as assistant manager, and also occupied the same position under Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva.

The Toffees’ fan favourite has been a key part of the Everton coaching set-up since 2014, taking charge of the first-team on an interim basis in 2019.

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry recently claimed that some figures at Goodison Park want him appointed as the next manager [Football Fan Cast], and just maybe it is high time Moshiri listened to them.

Ferguson has been shown the ropes under four quality managers already, and there is no better time to trust him with the job than now.

A trial could be all he needs, and we can always decide after six months if he has done enough to deserve it or not.

Listen to the fans, Mr. Moshiri.
