Don Hutchison: Rafa Benitez to Everton will end in tears

Don Hutchison believes that Rafa Benitez’s reign at Everton will end in tears as the Spaniard closes in on the Goodison Park hot seat.

According to Sky Sports, the former Liverpool manager could be appointed as the next Everton boss in the coming few days.

The decision is likely to split the fanbase and a number of fans have already made their opinions felt by protesting next to Goodison Park.

One player who’s also been at both Liverpool and Everton, Don Hutchison, weighed in on this polarising update.

On his personal Twitter account, he wrote, “This is gonna end in TEARS.”

So much for optimism

We know that a huge chunk of our fanbase is gutted by the news, but the least we can do as fans is to be optimistic about this situation.

Yes, we would’ve preferred someone else that would be backed unconditionally by the fans and build on what Carlo Ancelotti started at Goodison Park, but that’s not likely to happen.

Instead, we’re stuck with a manager whose best achievement of his career was winning the Champions League with our arch rivals.

Rather than focusing on who he won it with, we should look at the fact that he’s a winner, comes in with the experience of handling big egos, and knows how to make the tactical changes in clutch moments to win the big games for his side.

He knows the Premier League well, having managed three different clubs in the English top flight, so will undoubtedly come in with a good understanding of how to achieve success here.

He’s also not known to play a dull and defensive style of football as some of the managers we were linked with did, so it could work out to be a masterstroke with the benefit of hindsight.
