Kevin Campbell: Antonio Conte should have been targeted by Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton should still be targeting Antonio Conte despite their links with Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard looks set to take over at Goodison Park, but the former Inter Milan manager is still a free agent this summer.

Campbell believes that Everton may not want to go down the Italian route after Carlo Ancelotti packed his bags and left to Real Madrid.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “For me, I would think that Antonio Conte’s of this world would be the ones they would push for.

“Maybe they don’t want to go down that route again.”

Mistake?

With Benitez look all-but-confirmed as the Toffees next manager, Campbell may not be happy with that decision.

The Italian has won it all, and has been available since leaving Inter last month, and his proposed move to Spurs collapsed.

Farhad Moshiri hasn’t made any move though, and it looks as though we will be going elsewhere on the continent for the next manager.

Benitez has still won as much and has as much experience as Conte, and this will still be a big-name appointment at Goodison Park.

We can guess which fans would prefer though.
