Merseyside police issue statement regarding Rafa Benitez banner

Merseyside police are investigating a banner that was posted near Rafa Benitez’s residence after reports emerged he’s closing in on the Everton job.

The banner read: ‘We know where you live. Don’t sign’ and caused a furore on social media this morning.

There were calls from the outside to call for an investigation and the Merseyside police have issued a statement recently.

Per The Liverpool Echo the statement said, “We can confirm police are investigating reports of a threatening banner at a location in Caldy today, Monday 28 June.

“At around 7 am, it was reported that a banner made from bed sheets had been placed over a wall and bushes on a residential driveway, with wording which is thought to target football manager Rafa Benitez.”

Take them to task

This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and we’re glad that the police have stepped in to find out the perpetrators.

It’s understood that the banner left for Benitez was actually placed at the wrong residence, but CCTV cameras in that area could help with the investigation.

Witness enquires are also being carried out in the area, but the understanding is that it took place late on Sunday night – reducing the chances of anyone seeing the action take place.

This kind of behaviour is abhorring and no individual must be suspect of these threats to themselves or their families.

Benitez has been peacefully living on Merseyside with his family since 2004 and it’s not his fault that the Everton board are interested in his services.

He is a top manager who’s proven himself at the biggest clubs in the world, and should he be given the job, he will be backed unconditionally by the majority of the fanbase.
