Clive Tyldesley suggests Everton defender Lucas Digne could return from injury in July

Everton defender Lucas Digne could recover from his current injury before the end of July, according to ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley.

The French full-back appeared as a half-time substitute during France’s 2-2 draw with Portugal on Wednesday, but he was taken off just seven minutes later after writhing around in pain.

That sparked fears that his Euro 2020 campaign was over, with BBC commentator Guy Mowbray calling it “horrible”.

However, speaking live during Monday night’s coverage of France’s round of 16 clash with Switzerland on ITV [28/06/21], Tyldesley appeared to put some minds at ease.

“They’ll want to get Lucas Hernandez fully fit for Friday,” he said.

“Lucas Digne hasn’t quite given up on the whole tournament as yet, but he is struggling with a thigh injury which he picked up against Portugal.”

Encouraging

Digne is one of our most important players, so we’re delighted to hear that there should be no complications in him returning for pre-season training.

He will return later than most players due to his participation in Euro 2020, but there were worries when he first went down injured last week that he could face an extended spell on the sidelines.

But Tyldesley delivered an upbeat update on his prognosis, and for Everton fans, Monday’s result will give Digne an ever better chance of returning fully fit.

France crashed out of the tournament after losing on penalties to Switzerland, which means Digne will not have to attempt to rush back in order to play.

He’s likely to be given a couple of weeks off now to rest, irrespective of an injury, and the hope will be the rest and recuperation will allow him to be back in top condition for pre-season and, more importantly, the start of our Premier League campaign in August.
