Don Hutchison reacts with Everton-Benitez deal all but done

Don Hutchison has warned that Rafa Benitez’s time as Everton manager will “end in tears”, claiming his former club should have hired Graham Potter instead.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Benitez, 61, is set to be announced as the new Toffees boss on Thursday with the ex-Liverpool man agreeing a three-year deal at Goodison Park.

In light of the news, Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers tweeted that he’s sure Benitez will “embrace Everton and surround himself with Everton people” amid concerns over his past at Anfield.

However, Hutchison doesn’t agree as he took to his personal Twitter account to say: “Gonna end in tears, mate.”

In a separate tweet, the pundit, who has been covering Euro 2020 matches, added: “Everton should appoint the right man. Rafa is not that man.

“Potter would have stabilised the club for a few years playing good football.

“Rafa’s football, ask Liverpool [and] Newcastle fans, is not great!

“Gonna cost millions to sack.”

Why is Hutchison already thinking about him being sacked?

Benitez hasn’t even been officially unveiled and the ex-Everton player is already thinking about how it’s all going to end for the Spaniard.

Give him a chance.

Whether you agree with Benitez being hired or not, it’s time for Evertonians to now accept the reality that he’s now in charge of the club, barring an official announcement.

People hung up their bedsheets at Goodison Park and aimed their anger at Benitez – but that hasn’t worked, has it?

If you didn’t want Benitez that badly, you would aim your fury at Farhad Moshiri and Alisher Usmanov. Maybe even Bill Kenwright and Marcel Brands.

All four of them should have borne the brunt of your bedsheets before Benitez.

If you made a stand against them, you might have got your own way but instead, Moshiri got away scot-free from your protests.

We’re not against having Benitez as much as others. We accept the concerns over his past at Liverpool but as far as we care, that was a long time ago and he’s now a Toffee.
