Alan Brazil: Everton boardroom devastated by Rafa Benitez appointment
A large number of Everton board members have been left disappointed by Rafa Benitez’s appointment, claims Alan Brazil.
Despite all the protests over the last few days, the Toffees went with the divisive appointment of the former Liverpool manager.
It’s also understood that director of football Marcel Brands vehemently opposed the decision of hiring Benitez, according to The Daily Mirror.

Weighing in on this move taken by the Merseyside outfit on talkSPORT Breakfast, Brazil said, “Between them [Farhad Moshiri and Alisher Usmanov], they have more money than anyone in the UK so going for this manager is a surprise.
“The other people in the board are devastated by it. They need a good start under him, I would imagine.
“But this [disagreements at Everton] is horrible. If he doesn’t win any of his first two games, it’s going to be really difficult for him.”
One colossal mess
Our entire managerial situation once Carlo Ancelotti left has been a mess with plenty of disagreements all through the club hierarchy. There seemed to be no plan in place as to the profile of coach we wanted and randomly had discussions with all available options.
There are very few similarities between Nuno Espirito Santo, Duncan Ferguson, Christophe Galtier and Benitez, and we were still extensively linked with all of them.

At some stage, each one had a very good chance to become the new manager, and eventually we ended up with the option that split the fanbase the most.
It’s going to be hard to forget the things he said about us in the past and the fact that he won the Champions League with Liverpool, but as every new manager that walks through the door, we have to give him a fair chance to prove himself.
Hopefully, his appointment does not cause too much upheaval in the boardroom as we have to back the manager in this transfer window as we aim to get back into the top six.
