New Everton boss Rafa Benitez called Jordan Pickford last night

Jordan Pickford has revealed he was phoned by new Everton manager Rafa Benitez last night (Wednesday) after he was officially unveiled at Goodison Park.

Pickford, 27, is currently on international duty with England with the goalkeeper yet to concede at the European Championships.

England play Ukraine on Saturday in a huge quarter-final showdown in Rome.

As quoted by Sky Sports journalist Nick Grounds, new Blues boss Benitez urged Pickford to perform for the Three Lions.

“It was nice to speak to him. He said enjoy the tournament and do well for England,” said the Blues’ number one.

Sensational

Pickford has been nothing short of sensational for England at the Euros this summer.

He’s made some really top-class saves for the Three Lions, who are the only team to have not conceded a goal in the entire competition.

While ex-Toffee John Stones had done an impressive job in front of him alongside the likes of Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings and Kyle Walker, the England number one has been one of the best players.

In fact, Gary Neville even said on Twitter this week that Pickford was his man of the match in the 2-0 win over Germany on Tuesday and even dubbed the Everton star as England’s “player of the tournament so far”.

It’s high praise indeed from the Manchester United legend – but all we Evertonians totally agree with him.

Pickford has produced world-class stops in basically every one of England’s four matches.

Let’s hope he can keep the clean sheet run going on Saturday in Rome against a Ukraine side that will be keen to cause an upset.
