Simon Jordan: Nuno hasn’t proven himself at big clubs, Benitez has

Everton made the right pick to hire Rafa Benitez over Nuno Espirito Santo, claims Simon Jordan.

The Everton managerial hunt took almost a month to conclude, but after a number of applications and a handful of interviews, Benitez was the man they decided to go for.

Despite his chequered past and controversial comments about Everton, owner Farhad Moshiri believed the former Liverpool boss was the right one to take the club forward.

Nuno was favourite to take over at one time, but the club did not make an offer to which eventually led to him taking up the job at Tottenham Hotspur.

Discussing the two managers on talkSPORT, Jordan said, “I think from the two managers, Benitez is the best manager.

“Benitez is a very good manager. Look at his track record in the past. On paper, Benitez has a bigger track record at bigger and better clubs.

“That’s what Moshiri has done. He’s appointed him on the back of what he’s done historically.”

Made the right choice

While there’s a divided fanbase after Benitez’s appointment, Nuno’s would not have caused that sort of an uproar, but in hindsight, would have been a glum decision.

Everton

Having watched Nuno’s brand of football at Wolves, despite all the riches, makes us wonder why we ever considered him in the first place.

We’ve always liked our teams to be assertive, play football on the front foot and go and dominate opponents.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said after sacking Jose Mourinho that he wanted a manager who’s true to their philosophy of attacking football. It doesn’t look like he thought about it while appointing the former Wolves boss.

We’re certainly not gonna play a compact and submissive brand of football under Benitez, and with the right players in the bag, this team could be frightening to watch.

We can’t wait for the season to begin.
