Everton should move heaven and earth to sign Denzel Dumfries after latest news on him

PSV manager Roger Schmidt has been speaking to Algeeman Dagblad and confirmed that he couldn’t see Denzel Dumfries, who has been linked with Everton by Voetbal International, returning to the club.

Dumfries was a standout player for the Netherlands during Euro 2020 and scored two goals and provided one assist in the group stages.

His all-action displays impressed pundits from around the world as Paul Robinson described him as “brilliant” [Football Insider].

So, he did more than enough to impress those watching him, and he would be the perfect man to replace Seamus Coleman.

If we look at the WhoScored statistics from the 2020/21 season, we can see that Dumfries scored more goals and provided more assists in the league than Coleman.

He is also much younger and, on average, made more key passes per game and completed more dribbles per game than the Republic of Ireland international [WhoScored].

Defensively, the two are a lot closer, but Dumfries still made more interceptions per game, while he was only just behind on tackles.

The statistics tell their own story, and while Coleman has been a fabulous servant, can the Toffees really afford to miss out on a player who looks destined to leave PSV?

The Eredivisie side are supposedly looking for a fee of £12.88m to take Dumfries, and Everton would be stupid not to take up that option and sign a player who was a joy to watch during the Euros [Eindhoven Dagblad].

You would think that if Everton didn’t snap him up, another Premier League or European side could, so the Toffees should be doing all they can to add Dumfries to Rafael Benitez’s squad.
