Everton handed transfer blow over Brighton defender Ben White
According to the Daily Express, Everton have been handed a huge transfer blow over Ben White with the 23-year-old “set on a proposed move” to Arsenal.
Everton were recently linked with a move for White, and Rafael Benitez’s side were even willing to gazump their Premier League rivals and offer Brighton more money for the central defender [Daily Mail].
However, it appears as if the England international wants to move to the Emirates to play under Mikel Arteta, rather than Benitez.
Huge blow for the Toffees
White is set to cost the Gunners around about £50million [David Ornstein] and Everton were willing to offer more than that for him, but if the player isn’t keen on the move, then what can the Toffees do?
In terms of recent history, there is no question that Arsenal have been more successful than Everton as they have won more trophies and achieved higher league finishes.
However, in the 2020/21 season, it is hard to say that there was much difference between the two sides as the Blues beat the Gunners twice and finished just two places behind them in the table.
Benitez has also won a lot more than Arteta in his managerial career, though Arteta hasn’t been in the game for as long.
In truth, at the moment, there isn’t much difference between Arsenal and Everton, and it is a surprise to hear that White is so determined to move to the Emirates when a move to Goodison could be better for him.
Nevertheless, the Blues are well stocked in his department for the moment, and his signing is not a matter of urgency.
